Reconstruction and Art Deco" walking tour

The towns of Dun-sur-Meuse and Doulcon, which have been awarded the Val Dunois "Station Verte" label, reveal their secrets along three discovery trails: "Fortress and Dun le Chastel" (2.3km), "Old Meuse and Lac Vert" (4.9km), and "Reconstruction and Art Deco" (1.5km), soon to be signposted in purple. Starting from the tourist office, you'll discover the two main types of urban houses rebuilt just after the First World War: the terraced town houses built along the main street and the typical villas surrounded by vast gardens, built on the outskirts, now creating a junction between the communes of Dun-sur-Meuse and Doulcon.

Dun-le-Chastel Fortress" walking trail from the Tourist Office

The towns of Dun-sur-Meuse and Doulcon, which have been awarded the "Station Verte" label for the Val Dunois, reveal their secrets along three different routes: a 1-hour walk on the red route "Dun-le-Chastel Fortress" or the blue route "Reconstruction and Art Deco" and a 2-hour walk on the green route "Vieille Meuse and Lac Vert". This red-marked nature, history and culture trail takes in the magnificent panorama from what was Dun-haut or Dunum in Gallo-Roman times, then Dun-le-Chastel in medieval times. Don't miss a visit to the richly furnished church, including 2 works by Dun-born contemporary sculptor Jean Robert Ipoustéguy, before following the ramparts of the ancient fortress.

The towns of Dun-sur-Meuse and Doulcon, which have been awarded the Val Dunois "Station Verte" label, reveal their secrets along three discovery trails: "Reconstruction and Art Deco" (1.5km), "Fortress and Dun le Chastel" (2.3kkm), and "Vieille Meuse and Lac Vert" (4.9km). Rives et collines de Meuse" walking and mountain bike trail

Soon to be signposted in yellow from the small marina area of Stenay, this walk leads down the Meuse valley through the meadow (or along the towpath in times of high water), then climbs up to join and follow the old Roman road, from where the panoramic view stretches from the River Meuse to the distant forests of the Meuse and Ardennes. The route then descends to Martincourt, a village destroyed in August 1914 and again in May 1940. The route returns to the port of Stenay: either by taking the towpath, where you'll be sure to keep your feet dry, or by taking the other bank along the meandering Meuse on the meadow side, extending the route by 3 km, but this very wet path is often flooded in winter.

In the footsteps of Dagobert II" walking or mountain-biking trail

This unmarked, mainly woodland trail starts in the hamlet of Charmois, which boasts two (privately-owned) châteaux, the older of which is home to the Charmoy brewery, a local craft beer. This beautiful walk takes you to the Saint Dagobert fountain, where, it is said, one of the last kings of the Merovingian dynasty was murdered during a hunting party. You will then take the strategic radial, a former military railway line linking Marcq Saint Juvin in the west of the Ardennes to Baroncourt in the east of the Meuse. As you leave the forest, you'll see the Côte Saint Germain and the typical Meuse countryside.

Signposted in yellow from the Intercommunal Tourist Office in Doulcon, this 20km trail offers surprising views and belvederes from the Porte aux Chevaux (Horse Gate) in the ancient medieval fortress of Dun-Haut, and the magnificent panorama from the summit of Côte Saint Germain, which has been occupied since at least Gallo-Roman times, This limestone site is now used for paragliding and a mountain bike trail runs along its end (adding another 3 km to the route). Picnic tables are available.

As you continue on your way, you'll come across the terrace of the snack bar at the Bouleaux campsite and the Faisan Doré hotel-restaurant. Both are fully equipped to welcome cyclists.
